Oros is a field placement, volcano eruption, mountain building, wisdom cultivation, economic strategy game. On separate player squares, players move their little people around, allowing them to manipulate the playing field, like the giant tectonic plate puzzle. Various activities allow players to move layers of the earth, shape and create volcanoes, worship gods for wisdom, travel their minions across the ever-changing earth, and build sacred places of learning and worship in the mountains. Building sanctuaries and worshiping at sanctuaries provides wisdom, which is used to enhance the abilities available to each action space. Wisdom is also used to improve the endgame value of each shrine you create, as well as accomplishing other objectives that will give you points at the end of the game.

By building sanctuaries, players move to a ziggurat that acts as a timer at the end of the game. When one of you reaches the top, the game round ends and the end game points are counted.

Game mechanics turn every action into a puzzle of creative problem solving, abstract thinking, and ever-evolving strategy. Another key aspect of the game is the player field, which uses a minimal worker-placemant mechanic to manage action options. The field also develops a course of action, which will develop differently for each player, as the acquired wisdom is invested in various ways to improve their field.
