Expansion for the board game „CATAN“ – „CATAN: Traders & Barbarians“. „CATAN“ is a world-renowned strategic board game for the family. Players acquire resources to build roads, settlements, and cities in their dominion. This, in turn, accumulates points that bring them closer to victory. „CATAN“ has been on the Latvian market for 13 years and has not lost its popularity. It is a Top 30 board game globally and one of the Top 5 best-selling board games at Brain Games.

„CATAN: Traders & Barbarians“ is a slightly different type of expansion. It includes 4 variants and 5 scenarios to enhance your favorite game. Available scenarios:

Variant: The Friendly Robber
A very simple suggestion from the author on how to balance the game, preventing anyone from falling behind early on due to the robber.

Variant: Catan Event Cards
Heard complaints that the dice rolls are completely off? In this variant, the dice are replaced by 36 cards, maintaining the frequency of numbers characteristic of two dice, and guaranteeing these probabilities within a single game. For lovers of pure strategy — another factor of luck has been tamed!

Variant: Harbormaster
Remember that in „Settlers“, one of the winning strategies is to earn and secure one (or both) of the special two-victory-point cards? This variant adds a third to these two – now the paths to victory are even more nuanced.

Variant: Catan for Two
Unofficial variants for playing „Settlers“ with two players have been circulating for a long time. After all, some haven't shied away from playing with two players even under the basic game rules. The game's author offers his version of how to duel for the title of Lord of Catan.

Scenario: The Fishermen of Catan
Undeniably, there were fish in the ocean long ago, but the Catanians had not practiced using them in trade and other dealings. There's nothing wrong with having such a "secret weapon" at hand. Now, even traditionally less attractive coastal tiles gain a new strategic role.

Scenario: The Rivers of Catan
This is a story about life on the banks of Catan's rivers, where the wealthiest is he who has most skillfully used the rivers to develop his trade network. With luck comes gold, with gold comes the honor of the rich, and with that honor — the envy of poor neighbors. You can use your gold to buy raw materials, or save it to maintain the honor of being the richest Catanian — the choice is yours.

Scenario: The Caravans
Catan's merchants are developing the renowned caravan route network. States do everything possible to attract caravans to their properties. And not without reason — both roads, and settlements, and cities are more valuable if a merchant caravan passes through them. However, convincing merchants is not so easy; it will take a lot of resources to get the caravan camels to tread in your yards.

Scenario: Barbarian Attack
Barbarians are raiding the coasts of Catan. If brave knights do not go to war with them in time, we will soon only dream of obtaining raw materials from the coast. And the worst thing is that, by gathering their forces, they might even break into our settlements and cities. Lace up your boots, sharpen your spears — a civilized nation shall rule in Catan!

Scenario: Traders & Barbarians
For order to prevail in Catan, the rulers of its inhabitants regularly meet in the Catan Council — a noble castle on the southern coast of Catan. However, after the last war with the barbarians, it is utterly devastated. But the diligent people of Catan do not need to be urged twice to work — loaded wagons set off, carrying marble, sand, glass, and tools to the castle. The payment for good work is generous. The only trouble is that some barbarians still roam the island, threatening the otherwise carefree journey of the traders.

All these variants and scenarios can be combined in various ways, provided there is a sufficiently large area (it won't be possible to cram it all onto the main game island at once!) and the patience to learn and explain the rules. This could truly be a serious shock therapy for someone seeing „Settlers“ in this form for the first time.
