It is the spring of 1942 and the world is at war. Five major powers are fighting for power: Germany and Japan are pitted against the Grand Alliance of the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union and the United States.

The game is designed for 2-5 players, and is set during the historical high-water mark of the Axis expansion . Taking control of either the Axis or Allied forces, players have their country's military and wartime economy at their disposal, with the ability to plan attacks, invade controlled territories, and resolve conflicts. The victor will be the one who defeats their opponents on the battlefield and liberates or captures the world's greatest cities. In just a few hours, you have the opportunity to change the course of history!

The second edition of Axis & Allies: 1942 includes a new expanded playing field (40"x26"), changes to unit positions, 5 new figure series (UK artillery, submarine, destroyers, German artillery, Russian submarine and anti-aircraft system) and some changes to the game rules - AA-guns have been replaced with AAA-guns, ICs have integrated air defense against strategic bombing raids, and Honolulu is a victory city.
