Will you be able to connect your dominoes?
This is a popular variation of the traditional domino game known as “Mexican Train.” It is usually played with a set of double 12 dominoes, which have tiles with values from 0 to 12, with each value appearing twice.
The goal of the game: to be the first player to play all of their dominoes, or to score the fewest points after a predetermined number of rounds have been completed.
Game progress:
- The game begins with the player with the highest double domino placing it in the center of the playing field. This domino is called the “Mexican Train”
- Players take turns, clockwise, trying to connect one of their dominoes to the open ends of the Mexican train. A domino can only be played if it has the same number as the open end of the train or if it is a double die (it can be played on any open end).
- If a player cannot make a valid move, they must draw a domino from the “boneyard” (a face-down pile of unused dominoes) and skip their turn. If they can play the drawn domino, they may do so immediately.
- If a player has a double die, he can start a new “personal train” by placing it vertically on the field.
- When a player has played all of their dominoes, the round ends. If the Mexican train is not closed (i.e., no one can play on it), that player receives zero points for that round. If the Mexican train is closed, the other players count the points remaining in their hands (the sum of the points on the unplayed dominoes). These points are added to their score for that round.
- You can choose to play a set number of rounds, and the player with the lowest total score at the end of the predetermined number of rounds wins the game.
