Illusion game review

What is the point of the board game?

Mechanics, graphics, replayability, balance, symmetry, asymmetry? Or maybe - how much the game pulls in, how deep the immersion is . You can be deeply drawn in by various things — detailed worlds ( Clank! ), visual design ( Mystic Vale ), detailed story ( Time Sories )…

But it is also possible to create a game where the players themselves choose to immerse themselves in the game and where most of it happens directly in their head. Illusion is from this category.

About the game Illusion

Mechanics: training visual attention
Game difficulty: Easy
Duration of the game: 15 minutes
Number of players: 2-5
Can you play remotely? Yes!

The game is made up of cards with designs of four colors - some abstract, some quite recognizable, but all containing a little bit of each of the four colors. At the beginning of each round, the color that we will focus on for that round is randomly selected, and then the participants take turns taking a card and placing it in a row (in any position), with the condition that the amount of color must increase sequentially.

The moment someone suspects that the order is not correct, the round is over and the cards are turned over , with the reverse side of each showing the actual % of each suit . If the questioner got it right, the questioner gets the point, if not, then the last person before him who placed a card gets the point.

Simple? Yes. Interesting? Also.

There is an automatic association with The Mind (small wonder, given that the author is the same person).

The principle by which we create the sequence is different - if there it is looking into the eyes and trying to read how big the stress resistance of other players might be and how big the jump between cards is, then everything is clearly visible on the table here - look at the card and find a place for it .

In some way, a similar feeling arises - immersion, concentration, also there is no desire to talk much (at least for the one who is thinking about placing a card - the others don't mind chatting).

Facts:

  • The game can be explained in a few minutes and is understandable from the first round.
  • It can also be played remotely, it is enough to have a calling platform + take one picture with the overall picture in each turn.
  • It can also be played well in pairs.
  • Everyday unusual intellectual/visual load that promotes brain activity .

Summary

I will put this game close to The Mind , and offer to play them consecutively or alternately on game days. I expect such fast, seemingly simple and yet deeply engaging games to go with a hooray (or two).
