Dāvājam Latvijai jaunu galda spēli — „Šurpu turpu“!

We are giving Latvia a new board game - "Shurpu turpu"!

Looking for a patriotic gift for Christmas? The game " Here and there " will be a great choice!

The new board game "Shurpu turpu" created in Latvia offers a great opportunity to visit the most beautiful places in Latvia with friends or family without leaving home. The educational and entertaining game was created by the young women Annija Rošane and Vita Konopecka, the illustrations for the game were drawn by cartoonist Gatis Šāukas and it was created in the Latvian Academy of Culture competition Culture Canon .

The game Shurpu turpu provides relaxation while learning and lets you get to know different places in Latvia. One of the goals of the game is to promote interest and the desire to see the places known in the game also in person. The authors of the game emphasize that with the game they wanted not only to promote domestic tourism in the country, but also to draw the public's attention to the topic of nature protection. The authors of the game state that Shurpu turpu could become an exciting learning task for students in science or geography lessons.

The game is very simple and will be suitable for both adults and children from 7 years old. The playing field is a map of Latvia, its territory is divided into 4 counties with a total of 60 attractions. Each attraction has its own information card with a description of it. To win, you must visit 4 facilities - one in each county - and complete an endgame quest that players draw at the beginning of the game.

To create the game, its authors paid special attention to the history of Latvian tourist attractions, their origin, fables and stories. The authors say that creating the game was a good and valuable journey, which is not over yet. "My journey started with learning a few phrases in the Libyan language, because I was very interested in the Livonian coast. Now I am studying Finno-Ugric studies, I am learning Estonian, Finnish, and later also Libyan. This process, no matter how banal it sounds, made it possible to open the eyes above the horizon, to see further, more, more clearly. To dare, to cross the boundaries, to do exactly what is needed today, not to follow the common stream, but to move along your own, individual path, carefully planning stops and stepping-off points. To be aware of the existing and the possible, to evaluate the possibilities. These mentioned aspects are also important in the course of the game," says the author of the game Annija Rošane.

Vita Konopecka also recognizes that Latvia's centenary is a reference point not only for the country, but also for each individual. "This time is ideal for both celebration and analysis of past events in order to see and set the necessary goals for the future and ensure not only sustainability, but also increased well-being in general. My goal, working together with Brain Games on the educational game, was to give students an impulse to become closer to their land and country".

The author of the board game's illustrations, cartoonist Gatis Šłukas, for whom this was the first collaboration with Brain Games , says that unlike the usual political cartoons, this was a completely positive project. "It was really interesting to figure out how best to portray the different parts of Latvia. It turns out that many historical places in Latvia are associated with devils!".

Brain Games games editor Reinis Butāns states that "this game is particularly important to us - in the centenary of Latvia, we want to promote and create favorable soil for the works of local authors. We are proud of Latvia and believe that Latvian youth are creative and capable of commendable results. The game, in a playful way, gives a small insight into Latvia, where everyone can see both familiar places and learn something new.
