Haven Town is facing total destruction from a horde of monsters that come from the Shadowrift.

You heroes must band together to fend them off. To do this, you will need powerful spells, skills, attacks and loot. When the game starts, you are the basic character; you can explore and fight. Lucky for you, Shadowrift is a crafting game! You can buy new cards to add to your deck, cards that will define you as an adventurer and complement the strengths of your fellow heroes. Unlike other cave builders, there's constant interaction with your fellow players as you figure out who's going to mine the limited supply of townspeople, your coins to help build walls, and seek healing from anyone who's mastered such magic.

Shadowrift also has monsters that don't just sit around and wait to be killed; if you leave them alone, they will destroy Haventown. They will kill people, break walls and attack your characters. Fighting them is intuitive (though often painful). By defeating a monster, heroes gain Heroism, a simple, consistent power boost that makes them better at whatever they undertake. Since the monsters will not stop coming until the last shadow reef is sealed or the city is built into a mighty fortress, you will need all the atlas you can get.

The second edition of Shadowrift includes many improved mechanics, including a revised system for how monsters choose to attack (based on villager types instead of specific people) and a new system for monster abilities (making them much more dangerous). It also has a revised map layout and lots of new and improved artwork.
