This year, Brain Games has produced twice as many localized games as usual
Every year, game developers release thousands of new games, only a fraction of which make it to local store shelves. An even smaller part of these games comes to stores in Latvian. But this year, Brain Games made sure that the range of localized games was particularly wide. In addition, a few more novelties will soon be added to the Latvian games!
When buying "Catan" , "Spārnotie" ("Wingspan" in English) or any other game in Latvian, people sometimes do not suspect that behind every well-spent game night there is a long and complicated process so that everyone can enjoy the game in Latvian.
It all starts with the selection stage, where the games that are planned to be localized into local languages are carefully selected. As more and more acclaimed games are released every year, it becomes increasingly difficult to judge which are the best to localize. This choice is determined by demand, competition on the store shelf - whether this game is unique enough to stand out among other games.
Once the right game is chosen and the localization papers are sorted, the translation work begins so that every card, every inscription, every sentence in the rulebook is translated. Next, the game is transferred to production and then also to delivery. In general, there are countless steps in this process where something can go wrong because external parties are also involved. For example, the game "Winged" did not arrive in the store on time due to an international shipping crisis. On the other hand, the game "The Quacks of Quedlinburg" (in English "The Quacks of Quedlinburg") has not yet reached Latvia, due to complications in the production process.
But after all the hard work, pouring sweat and sleepless nights, the result comes - Brain Games has localized twice as many games this year as in previous years.
Among these localized games are the greats like "Winged", "Splendor" , "Carcassonne" anniversary edition, "Bohnanza" and many others.
The already well-known "Black stories" line has been supplemented this year with three more collections of dark stories, the sequel " The Mind Extreme " to the unique game "The Mind" has been released, and the "Exit" series of breakthrough games has also been added.
Several children's games are also localized in Latvian - "LAMA" , "Who Did It?" , "Crazy Eggz" and "Coconuts" .
"Puzzling Professor" and "Matchbox" brain teasers in Latvian have also arrived in stores.
The biggest success story of this year is "Winged". This stunningly designed bird game is not only wrapped in gorgeous feathers, but also has a strong backbone, as the game itself has received numerous board game awards.
While most localized games are in the family, kids or party category, Winged is more of a next step game. Namely, it is a little more complex than, for example, "Catan" or "Splendor", but it has much richer strategy options that will make each game even more exciting.
Did you know that Carcassonne has been played for more than 20 years? A special limited edition anniversary edition was released to mark the occasion. Brain Games also managed to localize it. Along with the usual gameplay, it includes exclusive mini expansions and specially designed fields. If you haven't bought it yet, hurry up while it's in the store!
You will be able to buy all these and other games on Brain Games' birthday , November 17, with a 25% discount!
The game "Kvedlinburga pušļotāti", which won the 2018 "Kennerspiel des Jahres" award, will soon reach Latvia. This is also an internationally acclaimed board game that will make a great addition to anyone's game collection.
But this is not the only news coming soon! The games "That's Pretty Clever", "MicroMacro: Crime City" and "Sushi Go!" will also be released in Latvian. "Carcassonne Junior" and "Om Nom Nom" will also return to stores.
"That's Pretty Clever" is a simple roll&write type game where players roll dice and fill in slips of paper to accumulate points. The game is quite simple, but will make you rack your brain to find the most efficient ways to score points. Also, the game has a big plus that you can play it alone.
This year the best game award or "Spiel des Jahres" was won by "MicroMacro: Crime City". It is an investigative game in which players must solve crimes by studying illustrations on a large city map. This game combines the usual detective and the popular "Where's Wally?" mechanism. If you want to try the game , the producers have placed a demo crime case on their website , which you can solve to understand if the game is for you.
Sushi Go!, on the other hand, is a simple drafting game in which players collect points by creating their own sushi meal. Behind the simple rules lies an exciting game as players collect sets, but all the time you have to make careful choices and see what other players are choosing. Can you collect enough sashimi before others judge them?
